Sweden’s First Unlicensed Medicines and Shortage App for Prescribing Physicians
We at AtrimusRx are now launching "Licensläkemedel" – an app where physicians can quickly and easily access detailed information about available unlicensed medicines.
Currently, there is a significant lack of information regarding unlicensed medicines. In a report from December 2020, the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket) noted that there is no available information on which unlicensed medicines exist in other countries, and that one of the most common requests from prescribers is to receive information on suitable alternatives that can be ordered via named patient supply. In a second report from January 2023, the agency concluded that the information about unlicensed medicines needs to be improved. In a further report from May 2024, the agency states that “extensive improvements are required in order to enhance the availability of information on unlicensed medicines.”
To address this information gap, AtrimusRx has developed the “Unlicensed Medicines” app, which will be released for iPhone and Android on January 27.
Features:
-
Up-to-Date Information: Instantly access updated information on which medicines are currently in shortage and for how long.
-
Search Functionality: The database allows searches by the name of the out-of-stock product, product number, ATC code, and active ingredient. For products with extended shortages, the app presents alternative products that may be supplied under named patient use. We provide detailed information, including product datasheets (SPC), MAH, country of authorization, and authorization number, enabling you to make informed decisions for your patients and gather sufficient documentation to submit license justifications to the Swedish Medical Products Agency.
-
Communication Tool: The app enables easy communication between healthcare professionals and our experienced pharmacists. You can request additional information at the press of a button without needing to send an email.
-
User-Friendly Interface: With its intuitive design, the app is easy to use even in high-pressure situations. You can quickly navigate between features and obtain the information you need with minimal effort.
